We are a family-based construction charity, operating within some of Cape Town's most marginalised informal settlements. We started our journey in 2016 and have come a long way since then!
Our Sustainable Early Childhood Development
(ECD) Model
Bluemoon Projects implements a sustainable ECD model by transforming inadequate structures into robust centers equipped with essential facilities like kitchens, playgrounds, and gardens. These centers are designed to be fireproof, well-ventilated, and flood-resistant, addressing the environmental challenges of informal settlements. By supporting formalization processes, we ensure ongoing government funding eligibility, fostering long-term educational and developmental benefits for children while strengthening community resilience.
The Importance of ECDs in South Africa
Despite the end of apartheid nearly thirty years ago, its legacy of underdeveloped, segregated areas persists. Township communities endure unequal opportunities and heightened risks, such as fires and flooding due to their informal housing. Early childhood development (ECD) plays a critical role in shaping children's futures from birth to age eight. Lacking access to quality ECD programs, children in Western Cape communities face challenges in acquiring essential skills and are more susceptible to negative influences. Bluemoon Projects ensures these children access high-quality early learning programs, empowering them for lifelong success.
Where We Work
Bluemoon Projects is deeply rooted in the communities we serve, primarily focusing on Groendal in Franschhoek. Our journey began in Vrygrond township, also known as 'Capricorn', and has expanded to include Mfuleni, Khayelitsha, and other underserved areas. These communities often confront challenges like gang control, which hinders their access to government support and civil resources. Nevertheless, as trusted community members, we continue to deliver vital construction services that benefit the entire community.

"I grew up in the hardships of poverty in Silvertown, where I witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by my community. Inspired by influential figures like Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu, I embarked on a career path that led me to collaborate on impactful projects across South Africa. In 2016, leveraging our family's expertise in construction, we founded Bluemoon Projects to focus on uplifting informal communities in Cape Town. Since then, our mission has been unwavering.”
